Think of tufting as drawing with yarn. With tufting fabric stretched over a frame, you guide the gun along your design to build lines, shapes and areas of colour. Cut pile creates a soft surface of individual yarn ends; loop pile leaves the yarn in loops for a different texture. The AK-V can create both, with a manual conversion for loop pile.

02 / CUT PILE + LOOP PILE
Cut pile gives you soft yarn ends that you can shape and carve. Loop pile keeps the yarn in loops for a defined, textured surface. Explore either finish, or bring both textures into one rug.
Your AK-V arrives set for cut pile. A manual conversion lets you create loop pile too, giving you more ways to develop your designs with the same machine.

Before making adjustments, understand the gun’s cycle, how the scissors open and close, and the correct positioning of the parts. Photograph and measure their original positions so you can return to the cut-pile setup.

04 / THE DETAILS YOU USE EVERY SESSION
The LED light shines on the area where the needle places your yarn, so you can see where you are tufting. At the back of the machine, the speed display helps you keep track of your chosen setting.
Use both hands to control the gun and practise on a spare area of tufting cloth while you learn how your pressure, movement and yarn work together.

Yes. The AK-V is our current top recommendation for cut-pile tufting. Adjustable speed lets you begin at a pace you can control, and our setup and yarn tutorials help you understand how the gun works.
Take time to practise threading, pressure and movement on a spare area of taut tufting cloth before starting your finished design.
The Original AK-I is an earlier tufting-gun model. The AK-V replaces its plastic cogwheel drive with an internal belt drive that is more durable and less prone to failure. All electrical components are enclosed within the machine.
You also get a quieter brushless motor, adjustable speed with a display, an LED light at the needle and a rubber grip.
Yes. Alongside soft cut pile, the AK-V can create a looped surface with a manual conversion. It arrives set for cut pile and has no automatic cut/loop switch.

Our tutorials demonstrate both EFFY acrylic rug yarn and EFFY cotton blend yarn.
Different fibres and yarn thicknesses can need different needle-hole settings, pressure and spacing. Use the matching demonstration as a starting point and test on a spare area before working on your final piece.
Keep loose fibres out of the mechanism and oil the machine before first use. Follow the cleaning and oiling demonstration in the setup tutorial for the points to lubricate.
Switch off and unplug before cleaning, threading or making mechanical adjustments. If the machine stops working as expected, contact EFFY with a clear photo or video before dismantling it.
No. The AK-V is an electric tufting gun powered through its adapter. You do not need an air compressor or air-hose setup.
