Bring definition to the work you’ve tufted. Shape edges, refine lettering and carve the contours that help your design stand out.
Choose the carver on its own, or add the Easy Clip guide for controlled surface shaving.
01 / GIVE YOUR DESIGN DEFINITION
Carving is where you define the shapes in your rug. Use the Rosewood carver to work along colour boundaries, define lettering and create contours in the rug.
Adjustable speed lets you change the pace as you move between areas of the rug.
See the tool at work
See the Rosewood carver level the surface of the rug with the Easy Clip guide, then work freehand to define the design.
Use the carver on its own for shaping and detail work. Add the optional Easy Clip guide to help control shaving depth.

02 / ADD CONTROL WITH EASY CLIP
Use the carver on its own to shape and define your rug. Add the Easy Clip guide for controlled surface shaving, helping you manage how much pile you remove.
The Easy Clip guide is made for the EFFY Rosewood carver. It is a separate accessory, not a universal attachment for every carving tool.

Test on a spare tufted piece before working on your finished rug. Start gradually: you can remove more pile, but you cannot put it back.
Keep checking the shape from different angles as you refine it.
Switch off and unplug the carver before cleaning or oiling the blades. Use the cleaning brush to remove loose fibres.
Regularly clean the blades and apply a small amount of EFFY Oil every 10–20 minutes of carving. Frequent oiling helps extend the life of your blade.
After oiling, run the carver briefly to distribute the oil. Then switch it off and unplug it, and wipe away any excess oil with a cloth before you return to carving.
A few useful answers
You can use the carver on its own for freehand shaping and detail work. The Easy Clip guide helps control shaving depth when levelling the surface of your rug.
If you already have a CPI carver or 450 W shears with a levelling guide, you may not need an additional guide for your Rosewood carver.
If you’re starting out with small rugs and want to carve your designs, we recommend getting the Easy Clip guide. Choose the bundle to get both together, or add the guide later.
The Easy Clip guide is made to fit the EFFY Rosewood carver. See how it clips into place below.
No. The Rosewood carver plugs into mains power through an adapter, which converts AC power to a 24 V DC supply for the carver.
The Rosewood carver works with EFFY cotton blend yarn and acrylic rug yarn.
With EFFY cotton blend yarn, tufting density makes a big difference. If you tuft too sparsely, with the yarn too far apart, the blade can catch on the cotton. When the yarn is densely tufted and well compacted, the carver glides over it smoothly.
Different fibres and pile densities can respond differently to carving, so test your chosen yarn on a spare tufted piece first.
The Rosewood carver is useful for carving and shaping. If your main job is levelling larger rugs, compare it with the larger shearing tools in our rug carving tool guide.
The CPI is EFFY’s choice for a very smooth professional finish with very few passes. The 450 W shears with a guide are a cheaper alternative for levelling larger rugs.
